  • Thing a Day 4

Well, I’m posting late, but I am posting :)  Tonight I turned a plate into a cute clock for my kitchen. I wanted to do it the other day, but couldn’t find the correct size clock motor. I thought this was going to be such a quick and simple project, but even though it was technically simple, drilling that hole was actually kind of hard. Then add to it the fear that I was going to break the plate…ugh…in any event tho’, simple project, happy me.
I even played with paint to put the pix together to show the process...a big deal for me, cause while that may be simple to/for some, my family laughingly says that I kill technology if I look at it, let alone mess with it!

So, as I said yesterday, tomorrow's Fair Day. My older daughter, J., has a pretty bad cold that she's just getting over though. I'm a little concerned that it'll be too chilly for her (wow, rarely get to say that here in Fl.) but everyone says she'll be fine. When do we stop worrying about them? Oh well, hopefully we'll have a great time...and stay warm, lol,

  •  I got my craft journal finished tonight, and I am pretty happy with it.
I went with homespun, country fabric, a doily, and buttons to embellish it. Inside, I added an extra layer of quilt batting, which I then covered with felt, to make an extra squishy area that I can pin things on like trim, fabric, notes, etc. I also used two sheets of felt on the inside,as fabric will cling to felt.
Because of that, the inside isn’t quite as perfect as I usually try to make the inside of an album look like, but I really really like it just the same.

Now if I can just keep my promise to clear out my magazines...and maybe keep from buying more for awhile...or downloading stuff...oh who am I kidding?
Well, I'm off the next three days. I want to find the right size clock kit tomorrow, so I can finish that. Daughter #2 and I are also going by Michael's, Joanne's, and the thrift store for craft supplies. It's going to be a fun and busy day.
We're going to the Florida State Fair  on Friday (my honey took the day off), so I may not post to Thing-a-Day or here until Saturday.  I always look forward to seeing the craft, quilt, and cross stitch entries, and ,maybe this is a little weird, seeing the chickens and ducks.
Then, of course, there is the Fair Food (om nom !) and, since strawberries are in season, shortcake!!! Hopefully I can post some pix, but that probably won't be until Saturday.

  • Day three

Well, no pics tonight, but I'm really happy with my project. I originally was going to make a simple clock out of are really great old plate that I have, but I couldn't find the right size clock assembly...that will now be Thursdays project(my day off) as I need to shop around a little bit.
As for my today Thing a Day, I started covering a huge binder to start an inspiration book. For ages now I have saved my old craft magazines and patterns/plans with the eventual intention of cutting the things that I want out of them to save. Of course that never happens, so I just keep buying more. Finally I am doing something about it though. I got a kind of late start, so all I completed was covering the binder with batting, and then some really great blue and cream homespun fabric.  I'm putting felt on the inside cover to act as mini felt boards (or a pin cushion, lol). Tomorrow night I'll embellish it a bit, and get the pages loaded into it. I'll also post pictures tomorrow night.
As usual I saw some really great things posted tonight...such fun!!!

  • Thing a Day 2

I just got a sweet card in the mail from a friend I used to work with at Fire Rescue, so tonight I quickly put together a little card to send back. I made a matching envelope for it, but didn't think to take a pic of it...too late now as I am in bed with the laptop posting, lol.
I like this card because while it isn't anything fancy, one of my recent goals is to reconnect with people and be better about doing things like this. I started with the Police Dept. six months ago, and while I have met some really wonderful new coworkers and friends, I don't want to lose those old connections. Since I work 4 10 hr days and then 3 off, I think I'm going to take the time to make a stash of pretty note cards to have on hand.
I'm really seeing such great projects over at Thing A Day. There are so many super talented people out there...what a great forum to get to check these things out.

  • First Thing a Day project

For a long time now my younger daughter's hobby has been jewelry making. She makes really lovely and often intricate pieces, and for a long time I have wanted to try my hand at making something too. While mine is nowhere near the level of something she can make, it was fun learning how to twist the wire and put them together. So, I picked out my beads (I looove pink) and she showed me how to make a simple pair of dangly earrings. Clearly tonight’s project was a joint effort, but I plan on making more . I guess though that my favorite part was doing something together and it was fun for her (I think) to teach me how to do something.
